Private Education for the Obama Girls

Barack and Michelle Obama are to be complimented for being very involved with the rearing of their children. They have been busily checking out expensive, exclusive private schools in the Washington, DC area.

One cannot fault them for turning their backs on the local DC public schools. By most any gauge of school performance, DC public schools positively reek. As a quick example (there are many more I won’t bore you with), DC comes in dead last in SAT scores, behind all fifty states.

The year 2025: Oil, dollar out; Russia, Islam in

WASHINGTON — Global warming could be a boon to Russia, a European country could be overrun by organized crime and the U.S. dollar _ and the United States itself_ could further decline in importance during the next two decades, says a U.S. intelligence report with predictions for the world in 2025.

Why the Big Three are going down

I recently had an aborted discussion here about the effect of the unions on the Big Three car makers. If I recall correctly I was being accused of anti-union bias, and I tried to respond, but CHB’s web site would not let me post a reply. I suspect I posted one too many URLs and their filter filtered me. Took me a couple of days to figure it out and the article went off the front page.

Anyway, I decided to make my response into a blog post:

Here’s one place that shows almost exactly the numbers I put in my post:
I heard this data on CNN while I was doing some cooking this AM. And it shows overall costs, which is exactly what I said.

Who do we trust least? The Bush Adminstration for the last eight years or the Big 3 Auto Makers?

Here I am, a taxpayer among taxpayers grovelling in the miasma of the middle class and hoping like Hell that things will get better with the new Administration.

Then I listen to the heads of the Big 3 automobile manufacturers on C-Span as it was re-run last night, begging for 28 Billion Dollars from the lame duck Congress – with no plan, no reasonable means of payback and literally no respect for the folks like us who the expect to buy their gas-eating SUVs. And these guys, as was pointed out by just about every television news program, all flew into Washington DC on their individual private jets at a cost that would probably pay the health-care costs for workers at one of their factories.

The next future Bailout — the Health Care System

Economy is sickening U.S. hospitals

The dismal economy has American hospitals ailing, with new data showing declines in overall admissions and elective procedures, plus a significant jump in patients who can’t pay for care, the American Hospital Association said Wednesday.

Hospitals also have been hurt by losses on their investments due to the turmoil on Wall Street, and many are finding it more expensive to borrow money — if they can at all, according to a report from the association, which represents about 5,000 U.S. hospitals.

For the People, by the People

We need to get our representatives out for their long terms that they have…Once they’re voted in they never get out! And they become Complacent about our/the Peoples Needs. They’re supposed to be representing us, the PEOPLE. But when they vote themselves waves of raises, without our having a voice..who are they representing. Do they have the financial difficulties that most of us are going through with gas prices, food and utilities, and everything else going up? Why don’t they stay in as our representative for the same terms our President has…NO MORE THAN so many terms…NOT FOREVER. Or if they do stay, then when it comes to giving themselves raises for any reason….send this out to the PEOPLE, and let us decide if they should have a raise from our taxes.

Obama’s false promise of change

President-elect Barack Obama promised the voters change but has started his Cabinet selection process by naming several Washington insiders to top posts.

Obama is enlisting former Senate leader Tom Daschle as his health secretary. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a well-known Washington personality, seemed more likely than ever to be his secretary of state. Clinton is deciding whether to take that post as America’s top diplomat, her associates said Wednesday
