Is it too much to hope that Bush will read the long Washington Post front page article about Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda? Would spending ten – okay 30 – minutes reading about this most dangerous of world leaders and his mercurial country (aka al Qaeda) be too much of an effort for him? If Bush really believes “we are fighting them there (Iraq) so we don’t have to fight them here” he needs a stiff dose of reality.
Rep. Bob Filner stormed into a United Airlines baggage office at Dulles International Airport, barged past other customers, screamed at employees and repeatedly pushed a female baggage worker, according to a criminal complaint.
“You can’t stop me!” the California Democrat yelled.
“The police can,” replied the baggage worker, Joanne Kay Kunkel.
Filner backed off only when he heard another employee on the phone with airport police, says the complaint, which offers more details on an Aug. 19 incident that resulted in misdemeanor assault and battery charges against Filner.
Chinese military hackers have drawn up a plan to disable the United States’ battle carrier fleet through a cyber attack, British newspaper The Times said Saturday, citing a Pentagon report.
The blueprint is part of a plan by Beijing to establish “electronic dominance” over its global rivals by 2050, particularly the United States, Britain, Russia and South Korea, said the daily.
The newspaper said two hackers working for China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) came up with the plan.
First lady Laura Bush underwent surgery Saturday to relieve pain from pinched nerves in her neck. The White House said the procedure was successful.

Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel, a persistent Republican critic of the Iraq war, intends to announce on Monday he will not seek a third term, according to Republican officials.
The officials also said Hagel does not plan to run for the White House in 2008, despite earlier flirting with a candidacy.
The 60-year-old senator arranged a news conference for Monday in Omaha, Neb., to make his formal announcement. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid pre-empting the event.
