How complex is the tax code? The Tax Foundation estimates that
Americans spent $265 billion last year trying to comply with the rules
and regulations, and filling out various forms. That translates into
about 22 cents in compliance costs for every $1 collected by the IRS.

Hugh Thompson died last week. He was a difficult kind of hero. He
took a stand for decency and humanity, and some people vilified him for

U.S. Rep. John Murtha, an outspoken Democratic critic of the Iraq
war, said in remarks to be aired on Sunday that voter pressure in the
November congressional election could force President George W. Bush to
pull U.S. forces from Iraq.
