How much should we give? They only answer more! more! more!

The House announced today a major housing rescue bill has been approved. Of course the Bush Administration has threatened a veto. Perhaps the bill doesn't expand government or provide enough money to corporate interests for Mr. Bush's tastes.

I bought CCR’s Chronicle recently and Fortunate Son, which is where my title comes from is so prophetic and timeless. It’s more prudent today than when it was written. Here’s the verse:

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, lord,
And when you ask them, how much should we give?
Ooh, they only answer more! more! more! yo

This bill will be modified and changed many times before something actually comes out of it. Expect most of the provisions that help individuals to be stripped out and dropped.

The Federal Housing Administration, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac seem to be the biggest winners, expanding these programs and creating new oversight entities. In other words, more jobs for worthless bureaucrats.

Our government seems to think the answer to everything is to expand the government and spend more money. Democrat or Republican, each want to take your money right out of your paycheck and give it to some bureaucrat vampire. Where is this money going to be coming from?

How much more do we need to borrow from our grand-children via the Chinese?

It’s high time we start paying for our own messes.

It’s time for those of us that have lived within our means, didn’t buy McMansions that we couldn’t afford, skimped and saved and let the Jones bury themselves in debt only to have the rug pulled out from under us via inflation and stupid government mistakes to put our collective foot down and say:

“Get your sticky fingers off my paycheck you damn dirty thieves!”
