President-elect Trump: Still a shameless liar

Anyone who expected Donald Trump to exhibit any possibility of becoming an adult instead of the spiteful, tantrum-throwing child that he was during the 2016 Presidential campaign debacle discovered little has changed on Sunday morning when he used his Twitter account to push misleading and inaccurate claims about the New York Times.

Tweeted Trump at 9:16 a.m. Sunday:

Wow, the @nytimes is losing thousands of subscribers because of their very poor and highly inaccurate coverage of the “Trump phenomena”

In fact, the New York Times gained 116,000 digital subscriptions during the third quarter and reported an increase of circulation revenue with a 2.8 percent increase through the first nine months of 2016.

The Times digital subscriptions increased by 1.3 million (35 percent) since Trump began his White House campaign in June 2015.

Like so much of what Trump says and tweets, his comments continue to be outright lies.

Another Trump tweet at 9:43 a.m.:

The @nytimes sent a letter to their subscribers apologizing for their BAD coverage of me. I wonder if it will change – doubt it?

New York Times publisher Arthur O Sulzberger Jr. wrote a letter to subscribers that was not an apology but a promise that the Times would continue it’s “fundamental mission of Times journalism.”

Sulzberger told readers that the Times, as all newspapers often do after an election ask questions like: “Did Donald Trump’s sheer unconventionality lead us and other news outlets to underestimate his support among American voters?”

He concluded:

We believe we reported on both candidates fairly during the the presidential campaign.  You can rely on The New York Times to bring the same fairness, the same level of scrutiny, the same independence to our coverage of the new president and his team.

An apology?  Not at all.  Another lie from Trump?  Absolutely.

It’s going to be a long four years.

  1. Or six months, when he either gets impeached or resigns in favor of Mr. Pence, who is really looking forwards to making the USA a fundamentalist Christian nation, the Constitution be damned. After all, the Bible is superior, no?
