Embattled President Barack Obama, knowing his second-term agenda is in trouble, is trying to rally his supporters into a summertime show of support that he says he needs.

“We’ve got to get folks activated and involved,” Obama said Monday at a White House rally of a non-profit group created to do nothing more than support his political agenda.

“Things still get stuck here in Washington,” Obama said, noting that while he still managed to get elected to a second term last year, his agenda has been stalled by serious partisan opposition by roadblock-savvy Republicans.

Created from those left over from his 2012 campaign, the group — “Organizing for Action” — exists to try and build public support for Obama’s second-term priorities.

Those priorities — including immigration reform, the economy and implementation of his health care program — face major obstacles from a determined Republican Party with the singular goal of derailing the President’s agenda.

Organizing for Action hopes to motivate constituents to pack town hall meetings and other public events to voice their anger at Washington gridlock and partisanship when lawmakers return home for August.

“Nothing is more important to a member of Congress than the voice of his or her own constituent,” said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

About 300 supporters gathered at the White House for the rally.

“Naturally it’s not going to be as full of razzmatazz as a campaign,” Obama told his supporters.  “First of all, we don’t have a billion dollars to spend.  Nonetheless, in some ways this stuff is more important.”
