White House spokesman Tony Snow plans to leave his job before U.S. President George W. Bush’s term ends in January 2009, citing financial reasons rather than his recurrence of colon cancer.
In a radio interview this week, Snow, 52, did not reveal when he would leave. Snow earlier this year suffered a return of colon cancer and has been receiving chemotherapy.
But he said his reasons for leaving would be financial. He took a pay cut to leave Fox News.
“I’ve already made it clear I’m not going to be able to go the distance, but that’s primarily for financial reasons,” Snow said on conservative radio program “The Hugh Hewitt Show.”
“I’ve told people when my money runs out, then I’ve got to go.”
Snow joined the White House last year to become the voice of the administration, which was under fire for its handling of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In March, Snow learned his cancer had returned and underwent surgery to have a small growth removed. Doctors also found a tumor attached to his liver and he has since been undergoing treatment.
White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe, asked about Snow’s comments, said on Friday he did not know whether Snow had formally submitted his resignation.
Two years ago Snow fought through colon cancer, the same disease that killed his mother.
His leaving would be yet another significant departure from the Bush camp. Chief political adviser Karl Rove this week announced his resignation from the end of August.

This clown is a wolf in sheeps clothing. I heard Ed Schultz, Keith Olbermann and others talk about what a “nice guy” Tony Snow is. Well, child molesters are often nice and sweet to the children they harm.
This guy has promoted and steadfastly defended policies that do egregious harm to countless millions of people. The hell with the “nice” crap.

I read just enough of your rant to see that it was nothing more than trash, as usual.
Everyone that went to Vietnam apparently did not know what that term REMF means. I was there two times, for a year each time, and I NEVER heard the term. Besides, you would have a hell of a time knowing everyone that went over there, wouldn’t you? Lastly, I do not have to prove anything to folks like you!
Now you take care, learn to respond with FACTS to other folks posts, and read up on the issues before you hit the keyboard.
VV,
If you don’t know what a REMF is, it is highly doubtful you went to Nam. Everyone there knew that term.
“Now, there are literally hundreds of problems fixed by the Democratic party, and far too numerous to attempt to list them here on this post. But, try creating the Social Security program, that has allowed millions of Americans to live a reasonable life in the out years.”
Social Security is broken. It is underfunded. Democrat LBJ convinced a Democratic congress to pour SS funds into the general fund and replace it with IOU’s. SS is a pyramid scheme. It isn’t a fix. It is a problem. Heck, even Pelosi admits to this.
If SS is the best you can do, you have come up with nothing.
“Then, one for Clinton…he left you GOP’ers with a balanced budget and a budget surplus, which Mr. Bush promptly depleted, cast the government in a massive budget deficit, and proceeded to increase the national debt to higher levels than any other president before him.”
Clinton’s balanced budget existed only on paper. He gutted the military that had to be rebuilt post-9/11. Usama bin Laden was offered to Clinton on a silver platter by the Sudanese. He declined and 3000 Americans died. The Clinton recession that followed erased a budget surplus that never existed.
“Pelosi? Well, everyone is not just over joyed with what has been accomplished, but as I recall, the increase in the minimum wage was just passed. And, keep in mind that more has not been accomplished due to the opposition of the GOP’ers and their threats of filibusters!”
In a strong Republican economy, the federal minimum wage is meaningless because employers must pay more to get scarce workers. In the long run, the minimum wage prices unskilled labor, in particular minority youth, at a great disadvantage. Economists know this. To look good, Dems passed an increase knowing full well that the pain will fall on the poor who they say they really care about.
“Now, how about telling us something positive that Mr. Bush has accomplished. Try to avoid reducing taxes for the well-to-do! The poor and middle class of this nation do not think that was an accomplishment. It was a reverse Robin Hood program: taking from the less fortunate and giving to the most fortunate!”
The poor do not pay taxes. Ergo you cannot rob from them and give to the rich. The FedGov is taking in more money now than ever before. Even CNN reported this. If tax receipts are up and more lower and middle income Americans than ever before DO NOT PAY FEDERAL INCOME TAXES, who is paying more? Well, the wealthy are. Sorry, but you simply do not know what you are talking about.
As for what has happened under Bush?
More Americans, including minorities and women, are invested in the stock market than ever before.
More Americans, including record-breaking levels of minorities, own their own homes.
More Americans, including all minorities, are working now than ever before.
The unemployment rate is lower now than in the Clinton years in spite of record numbers of undocumented workers.
The new Brit Prime Minister is pro-Bush and pro-American, in spite of claims that the world hates us.
The new French Prime Minister is pro-Bush and pro-American, in spite of claims that the world doesn’t respect us.
The new German Prime Minister is pro-Bush and pro-American, in spite of claims that the US is the most dangerous force in the world.
Libya turned over its WMDs. Iraq is no longer filling mass graves. This is important if you really do care about other people. Afghanistan is no longer a haven for UBL. There have been no other attacks on the US since 9/11 (which was totally avoidable if President Clinton had done his job).
Abortion rates are slowing down. Crime rates have dropped for 12 years running. Our economy is in one of the longest, if not the longest, period of expansion since WWII.
Allow me to break something to you. I read a great deal. I read books on history, economics, science, and sociology. I study other cultures. I work with people of all cultures. My full-time job is working with troubled youth. I read authors on both the Left and the Right. I have read Mao, Marx, Halberstam, Jenkins, and Manchester. None of those guys were on the Right. I make it my point to know what I am talking about.
The Left doesn’t learn because the Left doesn’t want to learn. You guys are like a bunch of middle school children sitting around sharing each other’s wisdom. You can parrot each other, but you never bother to get any facts.
I am here, my friend, to rob the ignorant Left of its bliss. Take me on if you so wish, but you will be over matched.
JudyB,
You seem to have forgotten that President Clinton’s people headed for the exists long before his second term was over. BTW, as a person who works with orphans, your analogy is tasteless but quite typical of the Left. Do you remember when Gore held people suffering from Down’s Syndrome up for ridicule as part of a cheap political jab? You might want to think through your cute responses before you hit the post button.
