Amy Thompson of Arlington, Virginia, seems to be walking on the edge of the world. Actually, she’s walking on the stone guardrail that separates Rocky Knob Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd County, Virginia, from the valley below. The 469-mile Parkway winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains from Shenandoah National Park near Front Royal, Virginia, to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in Tennessee. The overlook at Rocky Knob, in Southwestern Virginia, provides a spectacular view of Rock Castle Gorge and the surrounding mountain area. The overlook is near Mabry Mill, one of the most popular attractions on the Parkway. Floyd County is also the childhood home of Capitol Hill Blue Photographer Doug Thompson. Amy Thompson is his wife.
