Sign in front of store on U.S. 58 south of Hillsville, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of these types of roadside shops dot the landscape in rural areas throughout America, although many claim their merchandise is more than “junk.” This one was once a Texaco station on the road that was a main route between Hillsville and Danville, Virginia, but Interstates have long since supplanted such roads.
