A national referendum on America’s soul

Now it's your turn. We in the media, be it traditional or non non-traditional; new or old; print, broadcast or web, have done our job. We've reported on the issues, highlighted the problems that confront the country and spotlighted the crooks, liars and malcontents who either hold or seek power. We've done all we can do. Now it’s up to you. We've suggested – as much as rational analysis should allow – the factors that could, and perhaps should, determine how you might vote. But, in the end, the decision is yours and yours alone.

Now it’s your turn.

We in the media, be it traditional or non non-traditional; new or old; print, broadcast or web, have done our job. We’ve reported on the issues, highlighted the problems that confront the country and spotlighted the crooks, liars and malcontents who either hold or seek power.

We’ve done all we can do. Now it’s up to you.

We’ve suggested – as much as rational analysis should allow – the factors that could, and perhaps should, determine how you might vote. But, in the end, the decision is yours and yours alone.

110706vote.jpgOur Republic is built a simple premise of majority rule. A majority of those who go to the polls, in most cases, determine who leads this nation at the local, state and national levels. Those who serve this premise must face the music every two, four or six years.

Now the fate of those individuals rests in your hands but this election is about much more than just who wins or loses a seat in Congress, the state legislature or the governor’s mansion.

This election, now more than ever, is a referendum on our nation’s soul, a historic opportunity to try and regain lost glory and the power of a people to control our own destinies.

America – caught in the vice grip of single-party rule and a stampede over our freedoms, Constitutional guarantees and democracy-driven illusions – has drifted off course into a Bermuda Triangle of greed, corruption and lust for power.

Those who directed America’s decline from a great nation worthy of worldwide respect and turned us into an arrogant international bully with callous disregard for law, human life and moral values should – and must – be held accountable.

This is not a simple ‘mid-course correction’ as so many mid-term elections become but a gut-wrenching, hard-core look inward at ourselves along with a ballot-driven revolution that, if successful, becomes a first step in taking America back from those who hijacked the Constitution.

We – the journalists, the pundits, the bloggers and all the others who try to get beyond the partisan blather and expose the truth – can only help bring America to this point: Election Day.

This is the day when the shouting stops, the negative ads cease to dominate the airwaves and the spin machine stops whirling – if only for a day.

Today – in firehouses, rescue squads, schools, gymnasiums and other polling places across this nation – you decide the future of this grand experiment called the American Democratic Republic.

Good luck.
