As Trump ignores aides’ advice, his chances keep sinking

With the Democratic Nominating Convention opening in Chicago on Monday, Republicans are in panic mode because their chosen candidate, Donald John Trump, continues to run amok, rattling off lies, issuing threats, calling his opponents vile names and avoiding policy statements.

“He’s gone off the deep end,” says one campagn strategist who asked no to be named. But while his closest aides tell him to calm down, the rabid right wing “MAGA” influencers want the aides to shut up and let Trump be his chaotic self.

Former Trump primary opponent Nikki Haley, who says she still supports the convicted felon but added  Trump is “not going to win” by talking about things like crowd sizes or Harris’s race and intelligence. (Trump has repeatedly suggested that Harris has hidden her Black identity, despite all the evidence to the contrary.)

Reports The Washington Post:

  • Another former Trump primary opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy, called for a reset and a “stronger focus on policy.”
  • Former House speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) urged Trump to “stop questioning the size of her crowds” and focus on Harris’s record.
  • Fox News host Sean Hannity said “we don’t have time for” Trump’s attacks on Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R).
  • Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly said of Trump’s focus on crowd sizes: “So stupid. Just focus on the damn border.”

The Post continues:

Former Donald Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway offered a recipe this week for Trump’s struggling 2024 campaign: “The winning formula for President Trump is very plain to see: It’s fewer insults, more insights and [a] policy contrast.”Fellow former Trump adviser Peter Navarro echoed that. “When Trump attacks [Vice President Kamala] Harris personally rather than on policy, Harris’s support among swing voters rises — particularly among women,” Navarro said.

Trump is not listening.

Typical Trump. The only person he listens to is himself and as he sinks further and further into psychopathic dementia, his belief is that he, and only, he knows what to do. That is why he lost his re-election effort in 2020 (while still claiming he lost to fraud that did not exist) and he is bringing brain-dead political hacks like Corey Lewandowski (fired in the first campaign). who preached that Trump “should always be Trump.”

In Ashville, NC, this week, Trump made it clear that he is not listerning:

““They wanted to do a speech on the economy. To day we’re going to talk about one subject. And then we’ll start going back to the other, because we sort of love that. They say it’s the most important subject. I’m not sure it is.”

Instead, he unleashed a tirade against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, calling her “crazy,” “stupid” and a “lunatic,” adding “she’s not smart, she’s not intelligent.” He made fun of her laugh, including saying that it’s “career-threatening. That’s a laugh of a person with some big problems.”

The person with “some big problems is surging ahead of Trump in the national election polls, leading in swing states like Pennsylvania and closing on others.

Adds The Post:

Recent days have featured a familiar sight: a coterie of Trump allies taking to broadcast outlets such as Fox News, seemingly to send a message to Trump — in the apparent belief that this is how you get through to the cable-news-junkie former president. They’ve practically begged him to change it up. They’ve sought to push him away from talk of crowd sizes and personal attacks on Harris, and toward policy.

But whether because he refuses to or he can’t, that message is going unheeded by the “audience of one.”

Yeah, the one who is losing. Trump’s win in 2016 came only through a gerrmandered Electoral College. Trump lost the popular vote. In fact, he’s lost every popular votes for office, never even reaching 50%.

While Trump is ignoring the GOP Social Media influencers, the Democrats are giving those on their side coveted speaking slots at their convention.

Reports The New York Times:

A speaking slot at a national party’s nominating convention is among the most coveted prizes in American politics, offering veteran officeholders and up-and-comers alike the chance to speak to — and be seen by — an entire nation.

At the Democratic National Convention this week in Chicago, five of those rare slots will go to a group that most likely would be unfamiliar to previous convention planners: social media influencers.

Convention officials said each night would include at least one influencer. The speakers are Deja Foxx, Nabela Noor, Carlos Eduardo Espina, Olivia Julianna and John Russell, a group of millennial and Gen Z influencers who, collectively, have well over 24 million social media followers.

They will speak on the same podium as President Biden; the Democratic nominees, Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota; and party luminaries, including two former presidents, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, among others.

“This feels very affirming,” said Ms. Foxx, 24, a reproductive rights activist from Arizona who worked on Ms. Harris’s first presidential campaign. She’ll speak about abortion rights on Monday night in a program that will also feature Mr. Biden. “I don’t take it lightly that I’m speaking on the same night as the president of the United States,” she said.

They will be speaking to a lot of people who are fed up with Trump and the decimated political party he destroyed,
