Trump’s long record of broken promises

Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump issued a 76-minute acceptance speech with a long list of promises that he said would fulfill his pledge to make America great again.

Promises were all he had.  No details, no specifics and no actual action plans.

Which is the Trump way.  He promises a lot.  He does not deliver.

Trump claims he is a great businessman but it doesn’t take a lot of research to find his many business and personal failures.

He promised glitzy, money-making casinos to boost the gaming industry in Atlantic City.  They failed and went bankrupt, leaving investors losing everything they put into the project.

One “investor” didn’t lose.  Trump paid himself millions in “management fees” while ignoring the sad business fact that his casinos never made money, were financed with a lot of junk bonds, and were destined to fail.  He didn’t lose any money because he used junk bonds to finance the projects.

He used also junk bonds to buy the Eastern Shuttle and promised to turn it into a “showcase” sir shuttle service.  It ended in bankruptcy and no longer exists.

He promised to personally recruit “outstanding executive talent” as instructors for Trump University and also promised personal counseling to those who ran up thousands of dollars in fees, often maxing out their credit cards.

In a deposition, Trump could not name a single “instructor” of Trump University and no record ever showed he ever had a hand in hiring anyone.  He did get fees for himself before the “university” closed.  It is now under investigation by states and attorney generals for fraud.

Trump launched “Trump Mortgage” with promises to create a “new, innovative program” of financing for property purchase.  It failed and is no longer in business.

He promised “thousands of jobs” and a big personal stake in his much-hyped Aberdeenshire golf resort in Scotland.  It has lost money since opening in 2012, the promised jobs never came and he used other people’s money, not his own.

He purchased The Plaza Hotel in New York and promised “a complete showcase renovation.”  It went bankrupt.

Trump, the self-claimed “great businessman” has been sued more than 3,500 times by small business owners who say he never paid what he owed for their work on projects.

USA Today found hundreds of dishwashers, painters, and even his own lawyers, who say they were never paid by Trump.

Trump hired Philadelphia cabinet maker Edward Friel Jr. in the1980 to build custom enclosures and fixtures for Trump Plaza in Atlantic City.  Trump never paid and Friel’s small business went under.

Reports USA Today:

Donald Trump often portrays himself as a savior of the working class who will “protect your job.” But a USA TODAY NETWORK analysis found he has been involved in more than 3,500 lawsuits over the past three decades — and a large number of those involve ordinary Americans, like the Friels, who say Trump or his companies have refused to pay them.

The U.S. Department of Labor says Trump’s companies have been cited 24 times for serious violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, resulting in thousands of dollars in fines.

More than 200 “mechanics liens” currently exist Trump and his properties for unpaid bills.

This is a man who claims to be a great businessman who keeps his promises?

When Trump started his campaign for President in 2015, he promised Americans that he would “self fund” his run.

Now he is seeking donations form any and all.  He cozied up during the just-finished Republican Convention to Las Vegas casino operator Sheldon Adelson and is seeking millions in donations.

Trump promised to not seek or accept donations from “special interests.”  Now he’s taking all he can get from any interest, special or otherwise.

Donald Trump is promising many things that he claims he will do as President.

Can we believe him?

Some, sadly, may be stupid enough to believe what he claims.

They will join a long and growing list of those who believed Donald Trump, fell for more of his lies and walked away broke or disappointed or both.

  1. I would love to be a failure like listed. According to Forbes Donald Trumps net worth is 4-1/2 Billion

  2. His businesses are losing money and he isn’t worth near what he is saying, that is why he doesn’t want to show his tax returns. He wants to get in on the insider trading that goes on in the federal system to protect and expand what he has left

  3. Snake oil sells by virtue of the sales pitch, not the results. Trump is a smart man. He looked at how Reagan won and has copied it. Reagan promised to increase spending, decrease taxes, and balance the budget, which is impossible. Reagan told THOUSANDS of lies. Nobody ever bothered to check and he’s remembered for the lies, not his performance, which was plunging the country into an 8 year recession and causing the largest financial collapse in US history – until W did even worse. Trump is campaigning on BERNIE SANDERS campaigns. Bernie has fought for 35 years for the goals he campaigned on. Bernie would have kept his promises. Trump has NO INTENTION of implementing Bernie’s platform. However, low knowledge Repub voters will be fooled this time, just like Reagan fooled them. If Trump is elected, Democracy ends.

  4. This is more crap, he has no political record. Hillary on the other hand has a record of lies, deceit and failed coups. Her invasion of Libya set in motion another territory where ISIS has filled, same goes for Syria. Notwithstanding the lies she told the families of murdered CIA operatives in Benghazi. Now ISIS is killing our citizens and more around the world, and the policy of Obama/Clinton is a disaster at best. She deleted thousands of emails and used an unsecure server in an attempt to hide emails, then lied when asked if there were any top secret emails sent or received by Clinton. By the time Clinton’s done, she’ll have more gates then National Fence, that’s what the future holds.

  5. I normally vote the lesser of the two evils; looks like I don’t have a candidate this election.

  6. Trump has no character or integrity. when he abuses people by not paying them or discriminating against them, you have to sue him to get heard…otherwise he is deaf to any complaints. Talk about excessive costly litigation…..just to have a chance of being treated fairly, you have to file a lawsuit against trump…..that is truly wasted productivity and personal resources and time for routine issues trump should be accountable without litigation. filing lawsuits is not an affordable forum for ordinary Americans….litigation is the forum for the rich who avoid taking responsibility.

  7. Donald Trump once said in 1998 “if I were to run I ‘d run as a Republican They ‘re the dumbest group of voters… They believe anything on Fox News . I bet my numbers would be terrific”
Fast forward 2016 , the Dumb master , the con man and most fraudulent Presidential candidate as proved by above compilation as painted Armageddon for his dumb Republican delegates . He knew them well , and he served them trump kool aide and lemonade . They all believe him as usual . Good luck to the Dumb Trump party as they vote for their Emperor . The rest of us will build a wall around White House with our votes . he will not be able to see or smell White House

  8. In the words of that known criminal and pathological LIAR, “What difference does it make?”

  9. Trump is a major hypocrite. Trump claims Hillary gets paid by special interests when he himslef admitted during the Republican primaries that he pays money to everyone Republicans and democrats for favors. He paid the Florida Attorney General money not to take cases against him by a number of Floridians that were victims of fraud with his Trump University. Trump claims he wants to bring jobs back to America whe he himself outsources his clot
hing line to China, Korea, Taiwan , India and other nations for cheap labor.

    • I love the dumb and dumber comments! BUT how can people be so taken by him, maybe not so smart! People, read up on him! Listen to what comes out of his mouth! Not a good leader for this beautiful nation!

    • if trumpty was honest he wouldn’t practice demon crat ways.he’s an over grown baby. doesn’t know about business.just lies like killary hillary.him and hillary are two peas in a pod.a rapist, mob, union, kkk, sleeper cell for demon crats.

  10. Trump would not be the nominee, if the GOP were not so bankrupt themselves. Their willingness to sacrifice their country rather than give Obama any “victories”, is a prime example.
Eight years is a huge gap in needed legislative action, The republican base is complicit by not holding their representatives responsible. They simply cannot allow a black man to do the job that millions of Americans elected him to do!

  11. Trumps’s speeches are filled with a lot of I’s, I know everything, I am the uniter, I know the truth, I will do it…. When a person speaks too much of himself, it is a clear indication that whatever he does will be for himself and not for anyone else. I hope people realize this sooner before they have to regret with him for 4 years and fixing the damage for years after that……

    • Fareed Shariff – are you saying that only Trump uses “I” a lot? If so you obviously haven’t listened to any others! Besides, he is telling people what HE will do and so the use of “I” should not be surprising.

Durst – nice painting everyone with one brush! He has made most of his money by selling and building real estate – now just how is that conning anyone?

Why do so many of you have to call others names because they don’t believe like you do? To me that means you don’t have any real arguements so you just name call!

  12. How about a list of Trump’s successes? So he went bankrupt – he got back up and succeeded too but that wouldn’t fit into your blacking his name and candidacy to build up and cover up Hillary’s failures! I truly wish the federal election laws allowed a ‘None of the above’ for federal offices especially this year. My real choice is to not vote or vote Liberatarian.

  13. Let me see here, he calls Hillary “Crooked” or “Liar,” so who’s the REAL liar here? It’s Trump!!!
Seeing him with Pence (Dumb and Dumber) on “Sixty Minutes” was absolutely a riot. So now Trump has a translator/mouthpiece, from the looks Pence was giving him, I expected them to lock lips any moment! Hey, folks, this emperor is not only naked, but he’s stupid too.

  14. TRUMP made sure that he paid himself while slapping the MEAT to the Contractor’s that he hired. And AMERICA’s illiterate want him as Dictator.

  15. Can’t believe there are people being blinded by Donald Trump. Are they brainwashed or what? All facts are showing how Trump is running his business and now he wants to run America’s business? What else is HE good at? To me he’s good at being an egomaniac, womanizer, liar, etc., etc….He makes up so many words that does not make any sense. In his speech, he reads teleprompter because he could not speak from the heart. Is this the kind of man who will lead our country? NOT A WORLD CLASS LEADER!!!!!

    • Erlinda, if only more people did not fall for this recreation of P.T.Barnum our country would be
much better off. No one accrues over a billion dollars by being trustworthy. But this is true of
      most all repubs..

    • Snake oil sells by virtue of the sales pitch, not the results. Trump is a smart man. He looked at how Reagan won and has copied it. Reagan promised to increase spending, decrease taxes, and balance the budget, which is impossible. Reagan told THOUSANDS of lies. • Trump is an excellent example of how corporations have perverted the US economic system.
Trump loses millions on his businesses, and makes billions by going bankrupt to transfer wealth from his subcontractors and customers to himself. It’s not illegal, and he freely admits doing this. What I don’t believe is that he has any intention to change it.

Never forget, the main reason the USA was formed was to get away from a British government that was strangling free enterprise because government was run by a few monopolies. Treatment of the people wasn’t that bad by the Brits, but it was impossible to for small businesses to succeed, like in the USA today. Corporations were ILLEGAL in 9 of the 13 colonies and restricted to 24 months in the other 4. The protection has been chipped away until we have what we have today. In 1976 there were 200,000 corporations in the world, and 80,000 in the USA. Today, there are 40,000 corporations ON THE PLANET and less than 10,000 in the USA, free market competition no longer exists. Trump has lost millions on his businesses, and made billions going bankrupt

      • I keep hearing about how evil Hillary is, but her record does not show it. As a retired Marine and civil servant, I have witness bad and good leaders in America and Hillary would be one of the best this country has had in the last fifty years. Donald is in this for the money, not the good of the nation, which being the President is about. If elected Donald will truly damage this nation in unimaginable ways and the poor will truly suffer. people such as Donald is all about himself, an “I” person who will discord all of these supporter at the first opportunity available. I usually don’t associate with government, but in this case, God please help this nation, if Donald is elected, because the damage he will cause will take decades to recover from.

  16. Trump is an experienced con-man, and, if you bother to check the facts, he lies as often as he tells the truth. He tells people what they want to hear, and people are gullible. Hillary speaks with so much more common sense.

    • I think he lies MORE often than telling the truth. The bottom line is he’s a snake oil salesman. Good snake oil salesmen constantly watch the crowd and change the sales pitch while watching for agreement. The next night in the next village, it’s totally different. Remember, snake oil sells because of the sales pitch, not the results
