Now come on.....are you going to tell me THIS is the SAME OLD POLITICS? I don't think so!

My Position On FISA by Senator Barak Obama

Now, I understand why some of you feel differently about the current bill, and I'm happy to take my lumps on this side and elsewhere. For the truth is that your organizing, your activism and your passion is an important reason why this bill is better than previous versions. No tool has been more important in focusing peoples' attention on the abuses of executive power in this administration than the active and sustained engagement of American citizens. That holds true -- not just on wiretapping, but on a range of issues where Washington has let the American people down.

I learned long ago, when working as an organizer on the South Side of Chicago, that when citizens join their voices together, they can hold their leaders accountable. I'm not exempt from that. I'm certainly not perfect, and expect to be held accountable too. I cannot promise to agree with you on every issue. But I do promise to listen to your concerns, take them seriously, and seek to earn your ongoing support to change the country. That is why we have built the largest grassroots campaign in the history of presidential politics, and that is the kind of White House that I intend to run as president of the United States -- a White House that takes the Constitution seriously, conducts the peoples' business out in the open, welcomes and listens to dissenting views, and asks you to play your part in shaping our country's destiny.

I don't agree with Obama's decision but I respect it. And RESPECT, dear friends, is what has been lacking in the Presidency for decades.

And I appreciate him taking the time to address this position in detail. Goodness knows, we have had 8 years of our POTUS saying "he is the decider" and "it doesn't matter what the American Public thinks".

The POTUS is SUPPOSE to be the representative of ALL the citizens of the USA but GW has been ANYTHING BUT! Oh sure, he has represented the wealthiest citizens well, but the Average Joe has been screwed royally by this elitist SOB!

I feel better after reading this although I would prefer that he hold out and settle for a beter bill. But I understand the POLITICS behind his vote and I appreciate that he cared enough to explain it.

You're right -- it most

You're right -- it most certainly was worth reading.

Thanks, Pollchecker.

I agree with Obama here.

I agree with Obama here. Gathering more information on a subject and adjusting ones view of it is not flip flopping.. it is called intelligence and good judgement, folks. Hearing those words from a REAL flip flop candidate that denies having said something, when we have already seen and heard the words from HIS mouth that he denies saying ,constitutes a lie in my world. But then anyone who finished 895 in a class of Naval graduates of 899, cannot be expected to be very smart on anything . Daddys brass in the Navy kept him there like someone now occupying the WH. It has become a deplorable thing that when truth is told the party caught in the lie has people defending him and slinging mud. Signing on the swift boat guy ,Day, is a slap in the face to anyone who was offended by the whole thing when it happened. Was Mcbush in Columbia to try and get MORE jobs sent down there? As a mamber of the generation that fought WW2 I am saddened by the state of this country. Our good Americsns did not die to see our once great country end up the way we are today. And as for the "hero" of his was..Mcbush was NOT the only POW who was mistreated and held captive, althought he brags like he was the only one... to me the HEROS of that war, 65,000 of them, never came home. They died in the same kind of battles we are having now. We were not threatened by Iraq,,the bombers of 9/11 nearly all came from bushes friends in Saudi Arabia. Where is there one single reason for stayihg in Iraq? If it would be a mess if we withdrew, what in hell do you call what's happening there today? I heard yesterday that ones DNA, MIGHT, have something to do with how they vote...well, it is apparent that the Republican view of things is lacking something..be it DNA or just plain brain power

Cannot wait to see that strong young man standing along side of that wizened up, old, little man and debating him. Bet a dollar Mcbush won't even understand some of the words Obama says....and the poor old soul wants to SIT DOWN during the debate... not enough energy to stand for that length of time? TSK TSK...something wrong with the old guy? like his AGE? I was his age 12 years ago and believe me he is NOT a good candidate for this job...He better retire to a rocking chair in one of his many houses......
