Will Gen. Colin Powell endorse Sen. Barack Obama? It's the question rippling through Washington's chattering class conversations. These conversations were sparked by the National Journal's report that the two met privately on June 18 in Powell's Alexandria, Va. office and talked for about an hour.

The McCain campaign privately and through surrogates insists no such endorsement is pending. In fact GOP sources predict when and if Gen. Powell makes an endorsement, his support will go to Sen. McCain, as the two are close allies. Whether that's true or not, it's more important to look at why Gen. Powell would consider a revolt against his own party.

The reasons for Sen. Obama's desire for a Powell endorsement are clear: Powell's support would boost Obama's perceived competence in foreign affairs and military matters. A Powell endorsement might persuade some more liberal Republicans to desert the party along with Powell.

Powell's reasons for meeting with Obama are an entirely different matter. Remember that Gen. Powell supported the Bush Iraq invasion, clearly against his own better judgment. He carried tainted water, while refusing to drink out of the same contaminated tap. Gen. Powell should have instead resigned over his obvious disagreement with the President. He took the coward's route and stayed to curry favor with the GOP's far right. That strategy backfired on him.

For Powell's efforts, he was rewarded with a boot -- booted out of the Secretary of State position in the second Bush Administration. It was pretty clear even Gen. Powell was having a hard time believing his own argument as he beseeched the United Nations in February, 2003 to support a UN resolution sanctioning the U.S. invasion. He tried to make the case Saddam Hussein was in control of large caches of hidden weapons of mass destruction. The White House has a transcription of his entire presentation on its website:

"POWELL: What you will see is an accumulation of facts and disturbing patterns of behavior. The facts on Iraqis' behavior--Iraq's behavior demonstrate that Saddam Hussein and his regime have made no effort--no effort--to disarm as required by the international community. Indeed, the facts and Iraq's behavior show that Saddam Hussein and his regime are concealing their efforts to produce more weapons of mass destruction."

The doubt in Powell's own voice was palpable. That day he went from trustworthy hero, to partisan hack. I remember Gen. Powell standing in front of a satellite picture with a pointer, explaining that what looked like a trailer was actually a cache of WMD (weapons of mass destruction.) It could have been a trailer full of DVDs.

To military insiders, though, Powell may never have been much more than a self-promoter to begin with. They remember his involvement in the investigation of the My Lai massacre of Vietnamese civilians by U.S. troops. Powell was then a 31-year-old Army Major charged with investigating aspects of the massacre. At the time, Powell was accused of "whitewashing" the atrocities in his report. Many years later as Secretary of State CNN's Larry King asked Powell about those allegations and he responded:

"I mean I was in a unit that was responsible for My Lai. I got there after My Lai happened. So, in war, these sorts of horrible things happen every now and again, but they are still to be deplored." -- cnn.com

In retrospect his answer so mirrors a typical Obama brush-off, the comparison is unnerving.

Bottom line is it's completely unclear how many votes if any a Powell endorsement would bring to either presidential nominee. But one thing is clear: if Gen. Powell endorses Sen. Obama, the endorsement is more about an attempt to rehabilitate Gen. Powell's defiled image as an unenthusiastic war-monger, than it is about much of anything else.

I really hope not. Colin

I really hope not.
Colin Powell is a great American and many are not sure what kind of American Sen. Obama is at this time. The media had decided that they intend on protecting his image. I am afraid that that is all it is - an image.

Senator Obama’s Patriotism – What it means to this Navy Veteran. I hope you consider the following article: Senator Obama's Patriotism - a Veteran's Perspective
It is found at:

And with what do you define

And with what do you define "patriotism"? Blind loyalty? My country right or wrong?

Colin Powell may not "endorse" Barack Obama - it is speculation. But he DID find the crock he was selling the UN to be "bullsh!t" and he WAS eventually fired by Bush, meaning he didn't toe the Bush policy line (unquestioning loyalty, etc.), so maybe he is interested in knowing what Mr. Obama has to offer. He's already aware of Mr. McCain's leanings.

Larry Sinclair is a

Larry Sinclair is a disinformationalist responsible for many of the internet lies and distortions about Senator Obama.

In fact recently there was a story about how all these hoaxes got started and Larry Sinclair's name was prominently and often mentioned in the article. I am still in the process of looking for that link.

But you can Google his name and find all kinds of information about this NEFARIOUS man.

Here's some links:

Google news stories about Larry Sinclair

Websites that mention Larry Sinclair

And just in case anyone is interested...you can find out the truth regarding these smears and hoaxes at the following links...

Fight the Smears!

or if you don't trust this site, here is the link to Snopes which has all of the hoaxes that you might receive.

List of Hoaxes and facts about Sentor Obama.

Now this is of course PRESUMING that someone WANTS TO KNOW THE TRUTH!

Ps -- I hope Colin Powell does have the courage to stand up to the Republican Disinformationalists and do the right thing and endorse Senator Obama if he truly thinks he is the man for the job.

There are a lot of conservatives that might take a 2nd look at Obama with Powell's endorsement.

The question is whether Colin Powell is truly a brave man when it comes to politics or is he just another spineless politico?

Why would any politician

Why would any politician want Powell's endorsement? What has Powell accomplished other than shutting up, following orders, and presenting what he knew to be false information to the U.N. concerning Iraq's weapons programs.

I watched Powell speak to AIPAC. I know where his true allegiance lies.

Colin Powell proved - and

Colin Powell proved - and still proves - that he is a coward and a liar. He knew what he said was not true and yet he said it. and now he sits quietly hoping that America will forget what he did.

Hardly how I would describe a "great American" - hardly.

Colin Powell for God. Was a

Colin Powell for God. Was a day my respect for him was that high. Then he went before the U.N. General Assembly with trumped-up evidence, pure lies, that he and Condi had cajoled from the CIA the days before. He knew it was all lies, but his blind patriotism, "My President, right or wrong" took precedence.

No way I can count his endorsement of anyone as a positive after that. His judgment is suspect. And that's a damn shame.
