America on the Bubble

Every day, I am witness to another scene of the destruction of someones personal life. Yesterday, I am in the public library, there's a middle aged white man at the librarys' computer. His cell rings, its his wife, "No honey it doesn't look like we are going to get the loan, we'll have to move out of the house before the sheriff comes."

The parking lot outside the homeless shelter in Reno is filling up with tents. They'll only be allowed to stay for two weeks, then what?

I go to yard sales, its obvious now that the people aren't selling this stuff to get the stuff out of their way, they need the money.

If this continues much longer.......

you forgot to mention that

you forgot to mention that the prices at Goodwill and Salvation Army have gone up as well (wink).

The Middle Class is close to bankruptcy if not already there.

John McCain wants to make the tax cuts for the rich permanent, and cut the corporate tax cuts as well.

Does it make us a communistic country if all the middle class is working for the govt?

History repeats itself in

History repeats itself in many forms. The Great Depression of the 1930's began with a run on the banks. Now the situation is reversed.

The fractional reserve system was always imperiled by the possibility that the depositors would all demand their money at one time. It seems now that the financial industry has come up with a solution: make sure that everyone owes them, you can't have a run on the bank because you're in hock to The First National, you need to worry about First National making a run on you.

Its pretty hard to run on the bank when you owe them more than your net worth.

Well put, Mr. Hoosier.

Well put, Mr. Hoosier. Personally, I'm not so sorry anymore that America never passed those gun control laws. The Wild West will return, also. History does indeed repeat itself!

Hmmmm, I wonder what would

Hmmmm, I wonder what would happen if Middle America just stopped paying all those bills?

Its already happening.

Its already happening. There's a whole column of job offerings for collections agents every Sunday in the Harrisburg PA Patriot-News. A couple years ago I never saw ads asking for bill collectors. Looks like a growth industry.

Crossing the Abyss between

Crossing the Abyss between Spin and Mendacity

It's become so obvious to me that the controllers of the Media have abandoned the first principle of propaganda. That is that you may twist, divide or shade the truth, but that one must always present truth.

In this last six months time, the change has been glaring. As the gas prices rise to a point where the effect can be felt, a deliberate campaign, not of spin, but outright lies has been presented to the American people by the seven masters of the Corporate Media.

The one that really sets me off is the "Clean Coal" theory, possibly promoted by the same bunch of Madison Avenue hacks that thought up the "Safe Cigarette".

Anyone with half an ounce of sense knows "Clean Coal" and its evil twin, "Carbon Sequestration" are two of the greatest technical lies promoted by the fossil fuel pirates.

Coal contains an abundance of toxic or near toxic elements, ranging from cobalt to arsenic, and the stuff goes right through the washers dissolved in the steam. If you live near the plant, you're breathing the stuff.

The fluidized bed combustors required to burn high sulfur coal only capture enough sulfur to meet EPA standards and if you have ever looked at the plume, its yellow. Take a puff of "Clean Coal".

The biggest and most obvious lie is "Carbon Sequestration". Although technically possible, completely impractical.

A typical coal fired powerplant in the U.S. burns about 150 tons of coal in an hour. That will generate 400 tons of carbon dioxide.

In an hour! The typical tanker truck carrying pressurized carbon dioxide can haul about 10 tons.

So in an hour, we have a CO2 tanker truck leaving the power plant every minute and a half.

Then of course, we have to take the stuff and put it somewhere, 40 tanker trucks an hour, 24/7/365.

Obviously in that train of white lies, lies, damned lies and statistics, the fossil fuel spinmeisters have created a new niche.

Its the, "we think you're too stupid or lazy to check our facts" lie.

Sorry Boys, go back to the focus group.

The One Movement that can

The One Movement that can Free Us

It's not political, or social, its a simple move of the the index. Pick up the remote, point it at that noisy, blinky, obnoxious box in your living room that displays mainly commercials. Push the button that says on/off.

There, thats the way to a better life.
