I came across this man-in-the-street video and thought I would share it with you all. But first, a word from James Madison... "A popular government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; And a people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives."

Thanks for sharing Grif.
Submitted by pollchecker on March 20, 2008 - 2:18pm.Thanks for sharing Grif. Sadly, I Can't say it is anything I didn't know already though.

Submitted by pollchecker on March 21, 2008 - 12:35am.a healthy sense of humor keeps me from pulling handfuls of hair out daily (ggg).
BTW, did you happen to see HBO's John Adams last Sunday?
Yeah I did. It'll be
Submitted by griff on March 21, 2008 - 5:49am.Yeah I did. It'll be interesting to see how The Founders are portrayed throughout the series and how historically accurate it will be.
As with most TV, it is produced not to inform or educate, but rather to shape opinion, so I watch everything with a jaundiced eye.
My first impression is that they will portray The Founders as deeply flawed and hypocritical, particularly when it comes to slavery. No surprise, considering the political atmosphere these days.
On a subliminal level we will be guided to question and trivialize the whole of the Constitution and the Bill of rights. If they were hypocritical on slavery, what other aspects of the constitution should we be questioning?
I enjoyed it and did not
Submitted by pollchecker on March 21, 2008 - 8:21am.I enjoyed it and did not notice any double standards about slavery. They however, only touched on it once with Agibgal and Jefferson both referring to its place in the Declaration of Independence. I thoroughly enjoyed the debate leading up to Independence and couldn't help notice the similarities of today.
I admit I had to smile when Franklin was giving Adams a lecture on politics. I think Giamati is doing a decent job.
Since it is about him and not the forefathers, I expect it to jump around a bit because after all it is a 7 part series.
HBO's stuff is lot better though than the commercail channels. Too bad more people apparently aren't watching it.

Submitted by griff on March 21, 2008 - 10:19am.Yeah, Giamati is doing a fine job. I couldn't picture it at first; not his usual type of role.
Unfortunately The Founders don't get the credit they deserve these days. They have been marginalized and hopefully HBO will portray them in a respectable manner.
So far, so good. I have
Submitted by pollchecker on March 22, 2008 - 7:58am.So far, so good. I have read the story review though and it is more about Adams than the overall revolution.
My favorite part so far is where part of the forefathers were concerned about going up against the English military. I suppose it would be overwhelming odds just like if we tried today to do the same thing... we would be facing overwhelming odds.
So they were facing 2 emotional choices....fear or freedom. I sure am glad that in that circumstance FEAR DID NOT WIN, FREEDOM DID!
