Rick Warren, the Inauguration and the debate over morality
In the controversy over Rick Warren speaking at the Obama inauguration, once again an important point is been missed in these kinds of debates. There isn't anything Biblical against men loving men or woman loving women, there are ancient rules of sanitation that predated the discovery of germs, that were mentioning in the Bible. One was not supposed to get manure, or each others semen or female body fluids, on each others hands, or in ones mouth. This was true in marriage as well. Maybe with careful use of a condom one could obey strict ancient rules of cleanliness, maybe not.
Mumia abu-Jamal and Ted Stevens (the ex-Senator from Alaska) -- two sagas with amazing similarities
Starting in the 60's there were an extremely determine efforts to put as many Black Panthers and other radicals in jail for as long as possible, with heavy manipulation of the media being involved; and charges, and a few admissions of, suppression and manufacturing of evidence.
More recently despite the general perception that business is being rewarded for doing wrong, there have been some extremely determined efforts to heavy-handedly prosecute certain people for white collar crimes.
Cheep Substitutes to the 40 million dollar auto bailout
Announce a 100 thousand-dollar loan to each of the auto makers only after they divest at least 90% of their assets and 90% of their makes of autos. That way if they go out of business, they will be small not big companies. 100 thousand-dollar or less (determine by auction) to a foreign car maker to guarantee the big three warranties until 2010. That will make buying US cars more attractive. A small bonus to whoever buys the auto plants to start producing something fast, and a bonus for hieing former auto workers.
Auto Bailout
Ford is proposing as condition for government bail out, its top executive would get a salary of $1 for next year, and would sell off most of its branches and dealerships,

Instead, how about Congress subsidize half the workers salaries up to 15,000 a year of whenever the auto companies sell off. And after 90% is sold off, the automakers employee’s salaries would also be guaranteed for the rest of the year.
The problem, with today’s bankruptcy laws, is that the assets stay frozen for months until the bankruptcy court decides what to do about them.
Obama, like Gandhi, befriended his Enemies, but Gandhi didn’t overdue it
Mahatma Gandhi is said to have invented nonviolence but he called it Truth-Force or Satyagraha, which is in part a genuine attempt to befriend your enemies. The crowds cheered Gandhi and Obama for overlapping reasons. Nonviolence wasn’t thought up as a clever tactic, but coming out of genuine respect for all life.
Gandhi didn’t want to ever physically strike, or kill anyone, or even subject someone else to ridicule or scorn. Boycott and sit-down strikes developed out of trial and error, in pushing for what he wanted without hurting anyone.
Hillary would be a disaster, why isn't the peace movement complaining?
There is something good about Obama that hasn’t been examined. Mahatma Gandhi is said to have invented nonviolence but he claimed Truth-Force or Satyagraha, which is in part a genuine attempt to befriend your enemies. Even years after winning a bitter struggle, Gandhi would do a needed favor to someone he had struggled against. Never giving an enemy a favor he couldn’t afford. This unfortunately is something Obama never learned. Anyway the crowds cheered Obama and Gandhi for the same reasons, but Obama can only fail if his supporters don’t lobby him when he decides wrong.
The Movement Must Lobby for Better Cabinet Officials, This Isn’t the Time for the Movement to Hibernate
Peace activists, libertarians and lefties join the struggle to get cabinet officials and other government officials more to our liking. Obama loves to find the middle ground, but with one side screaming and the other hibernating, the middle ground moves over quite a bit.
Can't Move.org urge a better top diplomat (the Secretary of State) than a most undiplomatic Hillary Clinton? I'd rather see her as Secretary of Defense, she's much more a general than a diploma. Maybe it isn’t too late for Move On Dot. Org to lobby for Bill Richardson for Secretary of State, who is a skilled diplomat, and was being considered for the job without any heavy lobbying.
Internet forces us to hate. Crisp examples enclosed
I posted,“We Can affect a Secret Democratic vote of Leiberman”, but not by screaming, on the Oxford Gazette; no response yet,

A day later on Daily Kos change it to “Just say no to the Democratic Party if Lieberman stays” and got lively discussion. PS the vote is Tuesday, but I didn’t see an official verification.

Why Are Some So Angry at Obama? This is information that may discourage would be assassins
Obama when he was debating Richardson, Richardson forgot the question and began answering another one. Obama whispered to him to remind him off the question. Later when Bill Richardson dropped out, he endorsed Obama, not his good personal friend Hillary. This at first made Hillary extremely angry, believing Obama wasn't supposed to be able to steal one of her best friends and in her anger she began putting her foot in her mouth.
Rejecting sweet innocence, a key to the Democratic sweep
Sarah Palin succeeded as an athlete, and as a beauty queen, separate fields not many succeed at. She also created a very impressive sports stadium for a small town, and is working toward successes in politics, and advocacy toward certain political or moral causes.
When one’s comments get too shrill, during the heat of an argument, it is helpful to try to cool it afterwards. Some are inclined to decide she represents either goodness or evil, which is bad for our internal, well being as well as, all our general understandings on how this world operates.
The best candidate won but for the wrong reasons as the county heads for a depression
Obama won by outfluffing McCain, but now reality may slowly sink in. Though the Depression far less severe than if McCain won. A campaign based on unspecified hope followed by a depression, could easily lead to a blame game. The sooner we can put reality on the table by spreading around essays like this one, the easier it will be for Obama to do an adequate job.
I'm not trying to tear Obama down, just make him and for the people to expect him to do a possible job, instead a failing trying to do the impossible.
Much of Georgia unites to spare Troy Davis from Death again, can other places unite to save a prisoner’s life?
Troy Davis is spared for at least almost another month. Several very short stays in his execution date invigorated especially his local supporters. All of Georgia keenly aware of the difference between old Georgia and new Georgia. But in Philadelphia we have the saga of Kevin Brinkley and of Mumia abu-Jamal and Philadelphians not as keenly aware that Philadelphia under the late Frank Rizzo was almost an entirely different place.
On October 27 an innocent man Troy Davis is about to be executed with the acquiescence of thousands or more Americans
Many Obama supporters, both black and white, don’t want to bring up the subject of race right before an extremely important Presidential election. Innocent people have been executed before, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were executed for giving the Atomic Bomb to Russia, even though George Koval a Soviet spy had long since escaped back to the USSR. But Koval’s acquaintances, who were grilled by the FBI, were sworn to secrecy so few of the American public were part of the conspiracy to convict the Rosenburg’s.
Troy Davis an innocent man is about to be put to death because of a police frame up
The anti-capital punishment lobby warns. Some suggest that Davis is being lynched just because he is black which is particularly uncalled for. As usually the truth is slightly more involved than either side of the debate wants people to know. The Pope, Bob Barr of the Libertarian Party, and Cynthia McKinney of the Green Party plead for his life, Strangely Nader is silent about Davis. And Obama, McCain and Chuck Baldwin who claim they worry about fairness also so.
Lawyer terrorized and abandoned because he was doing what society had assigned him to do
Almost everyone likes to blame their lawyer if things don’t go their way. However a lawyer is never supposed to disobey a judge, and if a lawyer objects too much it can irritate a judge which could harm their client’s case. A very few like Lynne Stewart do defy the judge and pay the price. She is still facing a long jail term.
