The Supreme Court today ruled in a 5-4 decision, with Chief Justice Roberts writing a minority dissenting opinion, that the detainees of the United States at Guantanamo Bay have access to the protections of the writ of habeas corpus. They thus have the right to question their detention in the Federal Court system.

I sent this off to all the campaigns a few months ago, and never heard a word back, though a guy running for Congress in Colorado had some words of praise for me. Jared Polis,I hope you're doing well back there!

Ben Boychuk is quoted elsewhere as having said in defense of Senator Clinton's decision to keep competing:

"She's (Hillary's) won battleground states that the very liberal Obama would have trouble winning in November."

Barack Obama has castigated the Steal and Spend party for their ads in Tennessee "featuring" his wife Michelle saying that she finally has some pride in the United States. The SS party is trying to rub that comment onto Obama's reputation. I don't think it's going to work, and here's why.

The California Supreme Court has ruled that a statutory ban on same-sex marriages is unconstitutional because it denies people desiring such a union equal treatment under the law.

Make me the Democratic nominee and I will have the convention pick Lilly Ledbetter as my running mate. That would guarantee a win in November.

I hear a muffled cry, "Who the HELL is Lilly Ledbetter?"

I have no idea why no one has commented on this before, but if you crunch some numbers, you will find that the "real" price of oil has increased inversely to the value of the dollar against gold. (I used gold because it's a recognized commodity that has stood us in good stead for comparison purposes over the years.) Let's put this another way.

It is becoming more and more obvious (at least to me) that the Senate rule requiring a vote of 60 Senators to invoke cloture is so antithetical to the needs and desires of the American people that we need to do something about it NOW.

There are two ways to do this. The first way is to insist that our candidates for the Senate answer the question:

Do away with all Federal gas taxes from Memorial Day to Labor Day. That will be a boost to the economy.

The Dems are missing a solid chance to pin the Republicans with a moniker far more telling than the "tax and spend" label that the other party delights in sticking onto the Republicans.

The Dems should make it an unofficial part of the campaign plank to refer to the Republicans as "steal and spend Republicans."

Imagine, if you will, that you have just been awarded a new NFL franchise. One of the big things you have to do, other than coming up with gobs of money, is pick a head coach. So you look around at head coaches, assistant coaches, offensive and defensive coordinators, etc., and develop a short list of perhaps five people.
